THE CORPORATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLDSTREAM

2026 GENERAL LOCAL ELECTION

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN AS FOLLOWS


NOTICE OF NOMINATION

Nominations for the office of:
  • Mayor – One (1) to be elected
  • Councillor – Six (6) to be elected
Will be received by the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer as follows:
In person (during regular business hours), mail, email or other delivery service:

From 9:00 am September 1, 2026 to 4:00 pm September 11, 2026, 
excluding statutory holidays and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR OFFICE

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age or older on or before general voting day (October 17, 2026);
  • Resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • Not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office.

CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Elections, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply:

Mayor: $14,024.46

Councillor: $7,012.23


THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2026 General Local Elections, the following third-party advertising limits apply:

Mayor and Councillor: $924.28

CANDIDATE INFORMATION SESSION

A pre-election candidate workshop is being held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
District of Coldstream – Council Chambers

This FREE workshop is open to individuals who are interested in being a candidate in the upcoming Local General Elections in the District of Coldstream.

Presented by Administration and two seasoned politicians, this information session is sure to be interactive, entertaining, and thought-provoking.
