Mail Ballot Voting

• How to request a mail ballot package

  To obtain a mail ballot package, you must submit the following information by September 25, 2026, to the attention of the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer by downloading and completing the required form

  1. Your full name
  2. Your residential address
  3. The address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors only)
  4. Indicate one (1) method of delivery of your mail ballot package:
     • Pick up in person – Municipal Hall, 9901 Kalamalka Road
     • Regular mail via Canada Post to your residential address, or
     • regular letter mail through Canada Post to an alternate address that you provide when requesting the ballot package.
  5. You must indicate whether you are registering as a resident or non-resident property elector to ensure you receive the correct registration form in your package.
• How you will receive your mail ballot package

  Mail ballot packages will be mailed out on or about September 28, 2026. 

• Completing and submitting your mail ballot vote

  Your completed mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2026 (General Voting Day) to be counted for the election.

  NOTE: It is the obligation of the person applying to vote by mail ballot to ensure that the mail ballot is received by the Chief Election Officer by the deadline.   Postmarks will not be accepted as the date of submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Do I need to register to vote?

  The District of Coldstream does not utilize a voters list – registration is done at the time of voting and the process is as follows:

  • Each eligible voter produces two (2) pieces of acceptable identification (see list under Required ID to vote);
  • Each eligible voter will provide an oral declaration that they quality (see Eligibility for voting); and
  • For the Voting Book, each eligible voter must provide their full name, residential address, last six digits of their Social Insurance Number OR Date of Birth AND every elector must provide a declaration.
• Am I eligible to vote?

  Residents

  You are eligible to vote in the District of Coldstream if you meet all of the following requirements. You are:

  • 18 years of age or older on the day of voting;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least six months prior to voting day (April 16, 2026); and
  • are not disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment, or by law from voting in a local election.

  Non-residents

  You must provide proof of ownership of the property for which you are voting and you meet all the following requirements. You are:

  • 18 years of age or older on the day of voting;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least six months prior to voting day (April 16, 2026);
  • a registered owner of real property in the District of Coldstream for at least 30 days immediately before the voting day (September 16, 2026); and
  • are not disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment, or by law from voting in a local election.

  If there is more than one person on title for the property, you must provide written permission from the majority of property owners authorizing you as the sole individual to vote for that property. Please find the Non-Resident Property Elector Consent Form here (PDF).

   

• I own multiple properties in Coldstream but live elsewhere, can I vote for each one?

  No, you may vote only once as a non-resident property owner if you own two or more properties, and you must meet all other requirements.

• What identification is required to vote?

  Please bring two pieces of identification. Between the two pieces of identification, your address, full name, photo and signature must be provided.

   Examples of acceptable identification include:

  • B.C. Driver's License
  • B.C. Identification Card
  • Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle License issued by ICBC
  • B.C. Services Card, B.C. CareCard or Gold CareCard
  • Social Insurance Card
  • Citizenship card
  • Status Card
  • Property tax notice issued by the District of Coldstream
  • Credit or debit card
  • Utility bill (electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or cable service)
  • Student card

  Please note the combination B.C. Driver’s License/Care Card is ONE piece of identification.

• What if I am out of town on election day, how can I vote?

  Advance Voting Days are scheduled to allow those electors that would otherwise be absent from the District of Coldstream on Election Day. Mail Ballot Voting is also an option. 

• I have a disability, will I receive support at the voting location?

  If you have difficulty entering the voting location, you may request to receive and mark your ballot outside (curbside voting). Election officials will provide you with a ballot and a secrecy sleeve. You may choose to have someone who is accompanying you deposit the ballot in the voting machine or request an election official to do this for you.

  If you require assistance with voting, you may also bring someone with you into the voting location to help you vote.  Please note they will be required to complete and sign a declaration in order to provide support.

• English is my second language, can I bring someone to assist me?

  If you have difficulty reading or writing English, you may bring a translator to assist at the voting location. The person assisting will be required to complete and sign a declaration in order to provide translation help.
