Aggregate Extraction Areas and Fees
Council adopted changes to the Soil Removal and Deposits Bylaw, including the addition of extraction area maps and a $2.00 per cubic meter fee for materials removed under a Soil Removal Permit.
Noise Regulation
Council adopted changes to the District’s Noise Regulation Bylaw to provide a blanket noise exemption at the Greater Vernon Athletic Park, 7000 College Way, for special events approved by the Regional District of the North Okanagan.
Staffing Changes
Th Chief Administrative Officer, Keri-Ann Austin, has been appointed to the legislated Financial Officer (Director of Financial Administration) position for the interim while the District is actively recruiting a replacement for the outgoing Director of Financial Administration.
The Director of Financial Administration is an exciting career opportunity for a seasoned financial professional. This position is responsible for the overall supervision of the District’s financial operations and for performing the statutory duties of the Financial Officer pursuant to the Community Charter. North Okanagan Accessibility Plan
Council endorsed the North Okanagan Accessibility Plan, which was collaboratively created for the Region in response to the requirements of the Accessible BC Act. This Plan focuses on six main areas:
- Accessible Built Environment and Outdoor Recreation
- Safe and User-friendly Transportation Networks
- Inclusive Programs and Services
- Accessible Communication and Access to Information
- Collaboration and Leadership to Remove Barriers
- Educated and Aware Civil Servants and Community Members
The RDNO and member municipalities will work together with the Inter-municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) to support the Plans’ actions, while each local government will be responsible for implementing actions in their own communities.
North Okanagan Accessibility Plan
2025 CRI FireSmart Community Funding and Supports Grant
The District’s grant application to the FireSmart Community Funding and Supports funding stream was successful. The District will receive $200,000 each year for the next two years ($400,000 total) for the District’s FireSmart program. This funding supports the continuation of the District’s FireSmart Coordinator position and related services until July 15, 2027.
The FireSmart Community Funding and Supports program is administered by the Union of BC Municipalities and funded by the Province of BC.
Official Community Plan Development Open House
The District is hosting an Open House on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm for residents to come review and provide feedback on proposed changes to the Official Community Plan (OCP). The OCP sets out a long-term vision and policy framework to guide land use, housing, infrastructure, environmental protection, and community development through to 2050. Let us know what you think!
