The District of Coldstream is advising residents that, in alignment with the BC Wildfire Service, a prohibition on Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will take effect across the Kamloops Fire Centre (including Coldstream) starting at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on May 7, 2026. The prohibition will remain in place until 12:00 p.m. PDT on October 19, 2026, or until rescinded.
A map of the affected area is available here.
This prohibition includes larger-scale burning activities such as debris piles, multiple pile burns, windrows, and grass or stubble burning over larger areas. In addition, the use of air curtain burners, burn barrels or cages, fireworks, binary exploding targets, and similar equipment is also prohibited.
Category 1 small campfires (no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide) and cooking stoves using gas, propane, or briquettes are still permitted. For more information please see the District’s Fire Protection Bylaw.
Violations of open burning prohibitions may result in significant penalties, including fines, administrative penalties, or prosecution. Individuals responsible for causing a wildfire may also be held liable for all associated firefighting costs.
To report a wildfire or open burning violation, call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone, or use the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.
