The District of Coldstream is sharing an update on behalf of Coldstream Ranch, which is undertaking a fire mitigation / range improvement project to protect the community, local forests, cattle, and wildlife from wildfire risks. This initiative highlights the importance of proactive forest management for public safety.
Work has already begun between 1.5 – 3.5km on the King Edward Forest Service Road, following the successful completion of another section of the Ranch in Spring 2025. During this phase, crews are thinning trees and removing underbrush to reduce fuel loads and improve forest health. After harvest has been completed, the areas will be grass seeded to improve forage for cattle. The project will be underway until early April.
“Public safety is the top priority,” said a spokesperson for Coldstream Ranch. “By reducing fire hazards on our lands, we are helping protect homes, cattle, wildlife, and the long-term health of our forests. Residents, visitors, and recreationists are asked to stay clear of working areas and heavy equipment for their safety.”
Fire mitigation / range improvement projects like this not only reduce wildfire risk but also provide long-term value to the community. Thinned forests are healthier, more resilient, and safer for everyone. Coldstream Ranch is committed to ensuring these lands remain a sustainable, safe, and valuable resource for generations to come.
Reminders for residents and recreationists:
- Adhere to posted signage near active sites
- Keep a safe distance (minimum 200 meters) from all equipment and active working areas.
- Fire mitigation protects lives, property, and wildlife.
- This project is part of a long-term plan to strengthen the safety and resilience of Coldstream’s forests.
