About the Positions
The District is seeking seasonal Parks Labourers for approximately eight‑month terms, ideally beginning in mid‑March and continuing until November 30.
Reporting to the Operations Superintendent or Parks Foreman, these positions support the Parks Department by performing a variety of general and specialized labour duties. Responsibilities include maintaining parks and public spaces, operating hand and power tools, assisting with mowing and landscape maintenance, and completing garbage collection to ensure our community spaces remain safe, clean, and welcoming.
The ideal candidates are self‑motivated individuals with experience in parks maintenance, including operation of ride‑on and zero‑turn mowers. A strong understanding of safe operating practices and equipment procedures is essential. Applicants must be able to work effectively in all weather conditions and contribute positively to a team environment.
Required Education and Experience
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education and relevant experience
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector screening
- Physical agility and ability to perform duties requiring sustained physical effort
- Ability to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions
- Ability to comply with and follow safety procedures, legislation, regulations, and direction
- Knowledge of safe work practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to exercise diplomacy, courtesy, and tact
- Ability to safely work in a construction or maintenance environment
Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous parks maintenance experience within a municipal environment
- Experience in landscaping, arboriculture, or horticulture
- Traffic Control certificate
- Level 1 First Aid certificate
