Letter of Support for Vernon Army Camp Use

At the request of MP Scott Anderson, Council will be sending a letter of support for the reactivation of the Vernon Army Camp to assist in accommodating Federal Reserve Force expansion.

The Vernon Army Camp has a long history as a military training site and continues to host cadet training programs and reserve activities. Council’s letter will highlight the importance of the camp to the region and encourage federal decision-makers to consider Vernon as a location for expanded military training and operations.

Council Supports PST Exemption Resolution

Council received correspondence from the District of Peachland requesting that Council support the addition of a late resolution to the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA) Conference for consideration. The resolution requests that the Government of British Columbia exempt municipalities from Provincial Sales Tax (PST) on professional services required for municipal operations, legislated requirements, and capital projects, or provide equivalent financial offsets.

Council supported the addition of the late resolution and will be sending a letter in support of its addition to the 2026 SILGA Agenda for discussion.

Noble Canyon Fire After Action Report

At the March 2 Committee of the Whole Meeting, Sandra Follack Consulting provided an overview of the After-Action Review (AAR) of the District’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activation following the September 5, 2025 wildfire in the Lavington area.

The AAR emphasized the value of interagency collaboration, seasonal readiness, and ongoing training such as tabletop exercises.  Fifteen recommendations were identified to strengthen future emergency response, enhance coordination, and support continuous improvement of the District’s emergency management program. These recommendations are currently being implemented through regular operational processes or are being investigated for future execution.  The AAR will also be shared with the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.
