- Project Scope: To removed the log house from Kalavista Park
- Project Timeline: Unknown/awaiting Provincial permits
Project Update: June 16, 2025
Current Works
Abatement of the hazardous materials from the exterior of the building is complete and the majority of the structure has been removed. Demolition of the remaining structure will be completed once the necessary archaeology permits are obtained from the Province; Coldstream has been given no information on when the permit will be approved.
Future Works
Following abatement and removal of the log house, Council will provide guidance to Administration on reimagining the park. Habitat improvements for the turtles, such as the nesting grounds, will be considered as part of the landscape planning, following the demolition.
BAckground
Removal of the Log House will provide Coldstream with an opportunity to reimagine the use of this space and add valuable greenspace to the District for public enjoyment. Previous flooding events have intensified structural building issues including but not limited to failing foundation and mold, making the Log House unsuitable for private or public use and the roof is at end of life. The Log House was built in 1951 and purchased by the Regional District of North Okanagan in 2011 and rezoned as parkland. The District acquired the property in 2014. The Log House is not registered as a Heritage/Historical Site.

- Project Scope: To install solar panels on the Coldstream Community Hall to offset annual power consumption.
- Project Timeline: Unknown/awaiting final approval from BC Hydro
- Prime Contractor: Roost Solar
Project Update: October 20, 2025
Background
A solar project can potentially recover approximately 90% of electrical costs which could save the District (and its partner Maven Lane) upwards of $6000/year. The orientation of the building allows maximize energy production. This project was funded by the Local Government Climate Action Program, along with a $25,000 rebate from BC Hydro.
From March-September annually, the building will be producing more energy than it is consuming and thus the facility will be building "Net Metering Credits" with the electrical utility.
Solar panels have been installed and are awaiting final approved for connection to the BC Hydro grid.
